Camera Drivers

In my habit of never throwing away old technology I have a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P5 that I received in 2003. While it now has some trouble opening up the lens-cover, it's light, easy to carry, and when I chuck my backback down a 15-foot chute while canyoneering I don't worry about damaging it. In this case, not worry about damaging it refers to the fact that damaging it would be no great loss, but hey, it still works. I would not throw my Cannon EOS 50D down a 15-foot chute. I'm half-terrified of just taking that one hiking. The Sony is also what I take house-hunting with me.
On Windows XP I was able to plug it in, the driver would be automatically downloaded and it worked. On Linux I would just plug it in and it would work. If Linux was downloading a driver I never found out about it. Windows 7 won't recognize it. Windows 7 won't recognize either camera. Tonight I sat down, went to the Sony website and went looking for a Windows 7 driver. There isn't one. XP is the latest Windows Operating system that supports it. This maybe more of a problem with Sony than Windows, but on Linux, it just works.
Why am I still using this OS? We'll save the detail for the next post.
